And on Saturday, the Buffalo Bills drafted someone who they hope will have a similar effect as Mailata, despite never having played a snap of football. With the 221st overall pick and the first pick of the seventh round, the Bills selected Travis Clayton, a former rugby player from the United Kingdom. Clayton has never played in a football game but possesses the raw tools that could translate to play offensive tackle in the league. Clayton played for Basingstoke Rugby club, which plays in the Counties 2 Hampshire Division, the eighth tier of English rugby. Our man Travis Clayton drafted by the Bills.

In 2021, Tesla CEO Elon Musk moved the company's corporate headquarters to Austin from Palo Alto, California. Tesla officially opened its Texas EV and battery factory in April 2022, with a "cyber rodeo" party. Musk later called the Austin factory, and another assembly plant in Germany, "gigantic money furnaces," in an interview with Tesla Owners Silicon Valley, a fan club that promotes Tesla vehicles. Executives are expected to discuss the restructuring on the company's quarterly earnings call at 5:30 p.m.

The companies are asking federal courts, often with conservative, pro-business judges, to stop the agency from standing behind the more activist unions now making their lives more difficult. “The NLRB has long used the federal courts … to obtain injunctions … before the merits of an unfair labor practice case are fully evaluated,” said a statement from Starbucks. The employer doesn’t have to pay any interest, penalty or fine, to the fired workers, their union or the agency. While this is the first such case to reach the Supreme Court, other cases are emerging in which some high profile employers are challenging the agency’s right to exist. The Supreme Court’s decision is expected by the end of June.

Space garbage hits Florida home, NASA confirms
  + stars: | 2024-04-16 | by ( Jackie Wattles | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +5 min
CNN —A piece of garbage jettisoned from the International Space Station unexpectedly survived a fiery reentry from orbit last month and pierced the roof of a home in Florida, according to NASA. Garbage disposal in spaceNASA routinely brings home batches of science experiments, cargo and garbage from the space station using capsules such as the Dragon spacecraft built by SpaceX. But after the installation of new batteries on the space station in 2021, authorities disposed of a pallet of aging nickel-hydrogen batteries in a different way. But the debris that struck Otero’s house was the result of miscalculations about how space garbage would behave. The space agency should be more conservative in its analysis if it attempts a similar trash disposal method in the future, he added.

Last April, dozens of lawyers and their guests gathered at the Columbus Inn in Wilmington, Del. Hours earlier, the lawyers and their client, Dominion Voting Systems, had negotiated an extraordinary $787 million settlement with Fox News. Susman Godfrey would pocket a thick slice of the settlement that Fox had just wired over. Clare Locke, a smaller firm that specializes in the niche field of defamation law, wouldn’t get a cut of the settlement. But Dominion had already paid it millions of dollars in fees, and the victory offered the firm the potential for something even greater.

For a phenomenon that traversed the country from the contentious southern border to the far reaches of New England, Monday’s eclipse attracted remarkably few conspiracy theories or accusations. From where I stood, in Buffalo, the major threat to the moment was a forecast of heavy clouds. Perhaps I was too primed to seek meaning, having found unexpected significance in the last major eclipse to cross the country, back on Aug. 21, 2017. I wanted mountains, rock structures, landscapes and vistas that would give me that sense of This Too Shall Pass, and the planet will still be around. We decided to spend 10 days in South Dakota, starting at Mount Rushmore and ending in the Badlands.

In an awe-inspiring cosmic coincidence, the moon and sun perfectly aligned this afternoon, producing a total solar eclipse visible across North America. The moon’s shadow plunged daylight into darkness, carving a path from Mexico, up to Maine and into Canada. The moon’s shadow then carried on to Russellville, Ark., where 100 or so couples were pronounced married; Buffalo, where hundreds listened to “Here Comes the Sun”; and Montreal, where locals on Mount Royal applauded. In some places like Wyoming County, N.Y., crowds were disappointed to see a sky full of clouds. But elsewhere — even away from the path of totality, like in New York City — crowds delightfully squinted through protective glasses.
